Vessel Management
Your boat stays ready. We handle everything.
We check in regularly, keep on top of the maintenance, and make sure nothing gets missed — so you can just turn up and go.
The Idea
Owning a boat should be enjoyable.
Owning a boat should be something you enjoy — not something that follows you around on your to-do list. For a lot of owners, the reality is that the admin, the scheduling, the checks, and the coordination with service providers takes up more time and energy than the sailing. Things get missed. Small issues become bigger ones. The boat sits there when it should be ready to go.
That's what vessel management is for. We act as your eyes and ears on the boat — checking in regularly, keeping the maintenance on schedule, catching anything before it becomes a problem, and making sure she's ready when you are. You get updates when things happen and a boat that's always in good shape. We handle the rest.
The Service
What's included
Regular vessel checks
We inspect your boat on an agreed schedule: bilge levels, battery state, lines and fenders, any water ingress, deck and rigging condition. You get a summary after each visit.
Maintenance scheduling
We keep track of what's due — antifouling, engine service, rigging inspection, safety gear expiry — and coordinate the right tradespeople to get it done.
Pre-departure preparation
Before you head out, we make sure the boat is ready: fuel, water, batteries charged, safety gear in date, engine checks done.
Post-trip washdown and tidy
After a trip, we rinse down, tidy up, and leave her ready for next time.
Winter lay-up and recommissioning
Full preparation for the off-season: engine flushing, battery management, covering, dehumidification. And a thorough recommission when you're ready to go again.
Systems monitoring
Keeping an eye on bilge pumps, battery banks, refrigeration, and any electronics that need regular attention.
Compliance and safety checks
We make sure your vessel stays compliant with Maritime NZ requirements and that safety equipment is current and correctly stowed.
Single point of contact
One person who knows your boat, your preferences, and your schedule. No chasing tradespeople, no coordinating between parties — we handle it all.
Why It Works
The benefits
Nothing gets missed
We work to a schedule and keep records of every visit, every service, and every issue found. You always know the current state of your boat.
Problems caught early
Regular eyes on the boat means small issues get picked up before they become expensive ones. A leaking hatch seal found on a routine check is a lot cheaper than water damage found three months later.
More time on the water, less time on the admin
You stay involved at the level you want to be, without carrying the mental load of keeping everything on track.
Peace of mind when you're not there
Whether you're away for a week or a month, your boat is being looked after by someone who knows it as well as you do.
Is This For You?
Who vessel management is for
Vessel management makes the most sense for owners who are time-poor, travel frequently, or have a boat that represents a significant investment and needs consistent attention. If you own a blue water or offshore vessel — a bluewater yacht, a quality motor cruiser, a passage-maker — you already know how much work goes into keeping her in proper condition. The engine service intervals, the rig inspections, the antifouling schedule, the safety gear, the systems checks. It's a lot to keep on top of alongside a busy life. Our vessel management clients range from owners who sail regularly but want someone else handling the organisation, to those who get out two or three times a year and need to know the boat is genuinely ready when they do. Either way, you get a trusted pair of hands on your boat and one less thing to think about.
Common Questions
FAQs
- How often do you check in on the boat?
- That's up to you — we'll agree a schedule that suits your boat and how you use it. Most clients opt for weekly or fortnightly checks when the boat is in the water, with monthly checks during lay-up. We'll recommend what makes sense for your vessel and let you know if anything comes up in between scheduled visits.
- Do I still get to make decisions about my boat?
- Always. We keep you informed and nothing significant gets done without your say-so. You'll receive a summary after each visit, and we'll contact you straight away if we find anything that needs attention. You stay in control — we just handle the day-to-day.
- What areas do you cover?
- We service boats across a wide stretch of the upper North Island — Auckland marinas (Westhaven, Half Moon Bay, Gulf Harbour, Orams), the Coromandel Peninsula, and Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty. If you're not sure whether we reach you, just get in touch and we'll confirm.
